pdmd - Passport Data Monitoring Daemon

pdmd is a process for monitoring 24h/7d ERICSSON PPX (formerly Nortel Passport) network elements and creates dynamically configured statistics and accounting data from any Passport attributes. The resulting statistics and accounting data can be imported directly into a database as a table and are made available for customer PMS (Performance Measurement Systems).

Features:
  • Up to 20 independend polling prozesse available
  • Supports multicore architectures
  • Uses the Nortel API (EPI) of MDM (Multiservice Data Manager)
  • Runs 24h/7d reliable
  • New network Elements might be added/removed/modified on-the-fly without restarting the daemon process
  • All statistic/accounting attribute of the passports can be configured using a flexible configuration language
  • Measurement, defining the mapping of attributes into a database table will be defined in a measurement definition file (MDF)
  • The monitored network elements which can change every day will be defined in a customer data file (CDF) or generated automatically by documentations systems.
  • Three independent polling queues
    • 15 minute interval
    • 60 minute interval
    • 24 hour interval
  • Embedded into Ericsson/Nortel server surveillance server svdm

Used technologies:
  • C/C++
  • Qt library
  • flex/bison
  • Regular Expression
  • Unix Subprocesse
  • Unix named pipes

Available platforms:
  • Solaris 8 / Sparc
  • Solaris 9 / Sparc
  • Linux / X86

bdf2pms - Ericsson / Nortel Passport statistic data converter

bdf2pms converts PPX Ericsson / Nortel Passport statistical and accounting data from the MDP (Management Data Provider) into formats that can be imported into standard databases. Adjustable up to 20 sub-processes permit a high-performance data conversion to feed customer performance management systems (PMS). A dynamic configuration language with built-in data operators ollows a flexible creation of database tables and its entities. The powerful configuration language also allows changing the name of the network elements counter and protect the customer database from costly changes after minor release upgrades of the network element software.

Features:
  • Up to 20 independent conversion processes
  • Supports muticore processors
  • High performance conversion times - 80 times faster than a solution first choosen by the customer.
  • Uses Ericsson/Nortel record description files (RDF)
  • Flexible configuration grammar to define the database tables.
  • Protection against changes of counter names after minor upgrades of network elements.
  • Processing of IP, ATM, PNNI, FrameRelay, HTDS, BTDS statistic counters
  • Data processing operators on the basis of regular expressions
  • Data operators for summer/winter time changes
  • Operators to correct the time of measurement
  • Matching Operators to process only subsets (Netelements/objects/ports)
  • Reliable 24h/7d service
  • Supports centralized data collection/processing and regionalized distribution of data
  • Optional 7 days latency period for the replaying data into a failed database

Used technologies:
  • C
  • flex/bison
  • Regular Expression
  • Unix Subprocesse

Available platforms:
  • Solaris 8 / Sparc
  • Solaris 9 / Sparc
  • Linux / X86

QPathFinder - VCC / VC path finding in a ATM/PNNI network

QPathFinder creates statistical tables along ATM VC's or VPC's starting from a defined starting points inside of a PPX Ericsson / Nortel Passport ATM network cloud. The topology of the ATM interconnection is automatically generated from a combination of configuration information and operational data.

qpathfinder_overview.png

Features:
  • Reliable 24h/7d service
  • Calculation of ATM paths and channels (switched) starting at defined start points
  • Path finding through an additional superior Ericsson PPX/Nortel Passport transport network
  • Processing of more than 1400 configuration files (Standorten)
  • Five resulting tables:
    • Site information
    • ATM card assingment
    • ATM interface usage
    • ATM end-to-end connections
    • ATM path calculations

Used technologies:
  • C++
  • Qt library
  • SQLite
  • PostgreSQL
  • flex/bison

Available platforms:
  • Solaris 9 / Sparc
  • OpenSolaris 9 / X86
  • Linux / X86

dwdm2pms - Ciena 6500 / Nortel Dataminer statistic data converter

dwdm2pms converted Ciena Optical Multiservice Edge 6500 / formerly Nortel OME 6500 statistics and accounting data in formats that can be imported into standard databases.

dwdm2pms uses the Ciena DataMiner (formerly Nortel DataMiner) TMF interface and injects the converted data into a Performance Measurement System (PMS) of the customer. Up to 20 adjustable subprocesses allows usage of modern multi-core CPU architectures and enable timely compliance injection of counter statistics into the database of the customer. The configuration system allows quick adjustment of the counter attributes and database tables. This saves time and money after a release upgrade of the network element software.

Features:
  • Support for multi-core architectures
  • Flexible configuration grammar for defining the database tables.
  • Protection against changing the name counter in minor upgrades of the network element
  • Data processing operators on the basis of regular expression
  • Data operators for daylight saving
  • Operators for the correction of measurement time points
  • Matching operators to process subset of data (f.i. network elemnts/objekte/ports)
  • Configurable lists allow replacement of the exchange rate and cryptic layer by understandable PECCODES
  • Reliable continuous operation 24h/7d
  • Optional 7 days latency period for the re-recording into a failed database

Used technologies:
  • C
  • flex/bison
  • Regular Expression
  • Unix Subprocesse

Available platforms:
  • Solaris 9 / Sparc
  • Linux / X86

sam2pms - Alcatel Service Aware statistic data converter

sam2pms is a middleware solution between the Alcatel Lucent Service Aware Manager and Performance Measurement Systems (PMS) customer database. sam2pms allows the conversion and import of very large data quantities by usinf up to 20 CPU cores in parallel. A powerful configuration grammar enables customer to migrate smoothly data columns and the PMS tables created. This is important in the case of adjustments to the counter names as a result of system upgrades of network elements.
